So full disclaimer, I am rather new to red dot optics and I lack depth in experience when it comes to the in's and out's and do's and don'ts regarding red dots.
So with this being said I decided to test out the Olight Osight on my shotgun set up..
Easy Zeroing: Adjusting the Olight Osight for Shotgun Use
For the past few months I have been searching for a quality red dot that won't break the bank to mount on my Mossberg Maverick 88 12 gauge shotgun since I recently installed an optic rail to the top of the receiver and I was lucky enough to be selected to test and review the Olight Osight so I thought this would be perfect!!!
The Osight was easy to install using the industry-standard mounting footprint(Ruggedized Miniature Reflex, 407c/507c footprint) (Sold Separately) and zeroing in the Osight on a shotgun was surprisingly simple even for beginners like myself.
The Osight kit comes with all the tools you need for installation and adjustments.
The adjusting turrets are clicky and audible which aid in simplifying the zeroing process.
So getting started before I went to the range I zeroed the Osight using my front bead as an initial referencing point of aim.
On my first Range trip I ran several slug shells and slowly dialed in to find that point of impact sweet spot.
Features and Functionality: What Sets the Olight Osight Apart
I really appreciate the features that are packed into the Olight Osight.
It's truly has what you would expect to see as standard features nowadays on any red dots across the market.
Cycling through the modes is extremely easy and I greatly appreciate the auto brightness mode, it's definitely a set it and forget it function which I appreciate along with its simplicity.
I have been extremely impressed with the durability of the Olight Osight being mounted on a shotgun platform which we all know felt recoil from a 12 gauge can be quite extreme especially when shooting slug shells.
I have not had to adjust the zeroing after running approximately 40 2 3/4 slug loads and 100 2 3/4 #7.5 target loads.
The Osight has held up flawlessly so it has proven to me that heavy recoil is not a concern yes the Osight can handle it with ease.
Olight created an amazing product that will be charged anytime you need it with a lot of thought and ingenuity put into its design. I am impressed with the charger that doubles as a cover to make sure it's always ready to go when you are.
Large Window Advantage: Target Acquisition with the Olight Osight
For my final and overall thoughts,
I must admit, I was skeptical on whether or not the Osight would handle the recoil shock of hard hitting shotguns so to my surprise the Osight stood up to the test and proved my skepticism to be false.
I am also very impressed with the large window which opens up your view quite a bit compared to other red dots on the market it's ideal for pistols but in my opinion it especially caters to mounting it on a shotgun or rifle. The large window allows you to acquire your target effortlessly without hindering your surrounding view with fast target acquisition in mind.
The Olight Osight is a great option for any platform of firearm from pistol to rifle or shotguns, it's simple to use packed with features and at a great price point along with proving its durability for the home defender the hunter or every day Range use.
So if you're in the market for a user-friendly high-performing red dot then I recommend you pick up the Olight Osight.
