Explore the Five Elements
Introduction
1. Four elements theory
The four elements theory originates from the ancient Greeks' belief that everything was made of four elements, including earth, water, air, and fire, which was suggested around 450 BC and later supported and added to by Aristotle. Also, it was the cornerstone of philosophy, science, and medicine for two thousand years. They regarded that earth, air, fire, and water do not only exist in recognizable isolation but also are constantly combined in nature by mixing into innumerable inorganic and organic compounds, giving the basis for substances and beings that came to be summarily classified as mineral, plant, animal, and man.
2. Copper
Copper is a rose-red metal that turns purple after a copper oxide film is formed on the surface. Pure copper is often called red copper or electrolytic copper. It is well-known for its good electrical and thermal conductivity and excellent plasticity.
As you know, Copper material is often used to make handicrafts, utensils, toy pieces, etc. Speaking to its surface, an oxide layer will naturally form with its contact with the air, and it will show different colors over time. In addition, it will chemically react with the sweat from the surface of your hand, forming a patina effect. It is these characteristics that allow it to be preserved for thousands of years and why copper has such a long history of application.
3. Five elements
Fire
The meaning of fire in Greek mythology is "light, heat, warmth, vitality, knowledge, civilization", and in Greek mythology, it has the additional meaning of "inspiration". Prometheus was a benefactor of mankind by taking fire and giving it to us but suffered a tragic fate. It was because of fire that mankind began to civilize, and so fire also means purification of the soul.
Air
The Air Element corresponds to the Eastern part of creation. It symbolizes a vast network of vital breaths, from the winds that brought the Universe into being to the first cry of a newborn baby or first breath of life. Where Earth is "fixed", the air is most definitely a mover. It’s also connected to the mind, wisdom, spirits, and soul.
Water
Water symbolism is everywhere. It represents life and fertility, allowing generation upon generation to survive and thrive. Water also represents circulation, which is crucial for our survival and for the recreation of water.
Earth
Mother earth is symbolic of the environment from which life thrives. It symbolizes the nurture and growth and how the earth looks over us and provides life. It’s a feminist symbol and earth is more naturally referred to as her/she in alignment with mother. In psychic readings, the symbol of the earth represents new life and is a sign of a mother being pregnant or soon to be pregnant. The earth is nurturing and its soil and oceans provide the foundation of the planet’s food chain. From the earth grows food, plants, and trees. These are crucial components for sustaining life on earth and they provide us with nutrition and oxygen.
Copper
As a symbol of positive energy, copper has the ability to clear out any surrounding negative energy and endow you with strong spiritual strength, like the fifth element.
